This document, NIJ standard, Ballistic Resistant Protective Materials, is an equipment Standard developed by the Law Enforcement Standards Laboratory of the National Bureau of Standards.

This NIJ Standard supersedes NIJ Standard, dated December It adds a new threat level (III-A, 44 Magnum and Submachine Gun 9 mm) and establishes threat level classifications that are consistent with other NIJ standards for ballistic protection.

Requirements include workmanship, labeling, and ballistic. "Ballistic resistant protective materials" Description This standard is applicable to all ballistic resistant materials (armor) intended to provide protection against gunfire, with the exception of police body armor and ballistic helmets, which are the topic of individual NIJ performance standards.

anticipated to be published in late as NIJ Standard Its primary purpose will be for use by the NIJ Compliance Testing Program (CTP) for testing and evaluation of ballistic-resistant body armor for certification by NIJ.

It will be used by both ballistics laboratories File Size: 2MB. This revision redefines the classification system, and establishes threat levels and test rounds that are consistent with companion NIJ standards for ballistic protective equipment and materials.

This standard is currently going through a revision process. Referenced Standards include: NILECJ-STD; NIJ Standard. An overview of both the NIJ and the NIJ Standards can be found below. The NIJ standard will be published in NIJ Standard. The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) plans to release a revised version of the current ballistic-resistant body armor standard late The new draft version that was released for public comment, NIJ Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor, draws from nine years of testing conducted under the previous standard.

Be sure to specify pressure and impulse when ordering a blast-resistant product. Ballistic and forced-entry protection can also be specified and achieved in a blast-resistant product. U.S. Bulletproofing products meet and/or exceed UL Ballistic Standards, GSA Blast, and DOD Forced Protection.
